Matter overflowing from one form to another, transferring energy, capturing memories, memory. Having their own identity, consciousness and movement. Found, newly created, rejected materials living their own lives, morphogenesis, growth and destruction in an endless cycle.
The installation called Overflow deals not so much with the relationship between us and the surrounding matter as with the relationship between matter without us. The film Stalker by Andrei Tarkovsky and a book Roadside Picnic by Arkadij and Boris Strugacky become a source of inspiration in this story. It mainly takes the idea that relates to the partially sci-fi situation on the planet after they leave their traces of extraterrestrial civilization here. The forbidden zones of the place of visit, seem to be very dangerous for a person who is not used to move in this territory. Nature creates its rules and physical laws here.
The installation environment puts the viewer in a situation in which he is a bit separated from the objects. He doesn’t know exactly what’s going on here, he doesn’t understand the metal liquid flowing upwards or the absorbing bubbling mud. This world is foreign to him. He can just follow the flow of matter.
The installation plays with the idea of substance, which is detached from the physical laws that human has ascribed to it. Matter is free, lively and intelligent, and it decides what the rules will be. If a person decides to enter this zone and is sensitive, he can learn to be in harmony with this matter and perhaps even communicate with it, or use its potential. This certain sensitivity to the environment can be an inspiration to us in relation to the matter that surrounds us in everyday life even without this warning of its own strength and self-sufficiency.
